Guide My Design Week 4 | Dining Room Chair Fabric

Honesty time – this week has been hard.  It’s not anything to do with guide my design – although having my living room as a DIY Construction zone has stressed me out a bit!  I don’t know what it is except that life got busy, I got stressed, and everything that I need to deal with on a heart level got crammed down into no-man’s land.  And just as I was coming up for air from life’s busyness, every hurt and problem and stresser I’d been avoiding came back to smack me in the face.  Which is why yesterday afternoon I crawled into bed around 4:00 pm and had a little “existential crisis” as my husband would call it.

I know what you’re thinking…

“Ooh, Jenny!  You have such a nice life – working from home, crawling into bed at 4:00 pm, redesigning your living room, doing whatever you want!”

Truth is, I work from home to manage my depression.  Because on days like yesterday, when I can’t function and I have a migraine and my thoughts are telling me that I’m a failure, I’m worthless, and I’m alone…I have to crawl in bed, shut the world out, and just focus on surviving.  Surviving means speaking truth to the lies.  Surviving means resting so tomorrow I will be stronger.  Surviving means staying alive over suicide.

The recent celebrity suicides of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain have really touched something on my heart.  I know that pain.  I know what it’s like to feel that much despair.  I know what it’s like to lose hope.

We say when people commit suicide that we would have done anything to help them…had we known they were struggling.  Well friends, if you’re struggling, it’s time to get real.  Get real with someone about your pain.  And if you’re not struggling, it’s still time to get real.  Truth is, we would do anything to help someone who’s struggling except be vulnerable, except be honest, except let the mask of our perfect little lives fall away.   There’s my real talk for today.

On to happier things, like guide my design!

Ok, last week’s voting for the pop of color I am going to add to my mint buffet ended in a tie between Option 1 and 2!  Let me remind you of the options:

So, naturally I texted my sister at 7:00 this morning for a last minute tie breaker…at which point she voted for Option 3!  Wah Wah. I am going to cast the final vote for this week and choose:

Option 2 as our Winner!

Alright, lets do a little recap so far:

Our color palette for my living room/dining room as voted by you is Mint, Coral and Navy

The sitting area by the fireplace will be updated to these comfy arm chairs:

Painting is all done…and the wood trim is staying!

The dining room buffet is going to be mint with a pop of grey/white geometric pattern and gold hardware (similar to below):

Now, lets talk about my dining room chairs!

The chairs are wood with a cane back and have a greige? upholstery.  I really don’t know what color to call it.  Regardless, they need some new life and new fabric!  I am going to eventually re-do the caning on the back of the chairs (because as you can see from the picture below – we have cats with claws!).  But as I’ve been researching how-to remove old caning and replace it with new…well it’s been overwhelming just reading about it!  I can’t imagine tackling 8 chairs.  So I’m going to put that on the “To-do later” list.  Right now, we are just going to re-upholster the seats to give these bad boys a fresh look!

This week I’ve added voting options right here on the blog!  You can click on the vote button in the top right corner of each image to move your favorite up or down in the rankings.  Check back early next week to see which one is in the lead!

You can also still vote any of these ways too!
